The Met Office has issued a warning of cold weather over the coming days.

Cold weather can cause a number of health problems.

  • Follow the useful tips below to help stay well over the coming winter months.
  • Keep your home warm
  • Get your winter vaccines
  • Look after yourself and others
  • Keep your medicine cabinet stocked

We are experiencing cold temperatures that can be harmful for your health, especially for young children, people aged 65 or older and those with long-term health conditions.

If you have a long-term health condition cold weather can make it worse.

If you start to feel unwell you should:

  • Speak to your local pharmacist
  • Contact NHS 111

The sooner you get advice, the sooner you are likely to get better.


Slips, trips and falls become more likely during icy weather conditions, so it’s important to be mindful of the weather before setting off.

  • Keep your hands free to help stabilise yourself
  • Wear shoes with good grip
  • Avoid going out early in the morning when frost is thick or late at night when it’s dark
